Jones wants to go one step further

PAULTON Rovers made it two league wins on the bounce and moved up to seventh place in the Southern League Division One South & West with a 3-2 home win over Bracknell Town on Saturday (see page 87).

"Bracknell are a much-improved side," Paulton boss Andy Jones said, "and so we knew we would have to put in a decent performance.

"It's nice to get back-to-back wins and hopefully recapture some of our early-season promise.

"What is disappointing, however, is that we have to score three or four goals to make certain of the points as we seem to be conceding – a bit Kevin Keegan-esque.

"I'll obviously take the result no matter what the score, but it would be nicer if we were winning one or 2-0 as opposed to 3-2 or 4-3.

"But, if that's the way it is going to be then I'll take it at the moment.

"Our strikeforce has been bolstered with the signing of Dave Burborough and he has been a tremendous asset.

"He has a wealth of experience and once he gets his fitness up to Southern League levels he will be a force to be reckoned with.

"He has been the first to admit that playing in this league is a lot more frantic than at Toolstation level (Burborough has recently been at Bishop Sutton), but he is getting sharper and it is only a matter of time before he is 100 per cent.

"Abingdon away on Saturday will be a tough one.

"They are a decent mid-table side capable of beating anyone on their day, but we'll take confidence from our victory there last season when we played as well as we could and got a result.

"On Monday we've got Larkhall in the Somerset Cup and we'll be looking to go one further in the competition this year after losing to Bath City in the final last time around.

"There will be no complacency on Monday and I'll be picking the best side available.

"Mike Trought (returning from injury) should be fit to start that game and we will welcome back keeper Kyle Phillips after an enforced rest.

"He is still my number one keeper and I hope his absence will have done him plenty of good."
