Hall finds the equaliser in dying minutes

Mendip Ladies 1st XI 3 Bridgwater 1st XI 3

Although Mendip found themselves 2-0 down at half-time, they fought back to equalise against their strong and competitive opposition for a well-earned point.

There was end to end play from the outset and Mendip found themselves facing some tight marking from Bridgwater, who gave them little time on the ball.

Mendip were unlucky not to score early on when Natalie Morris and Hannah Denning tried out a tactic practiced in training last week.

Although the strong pass into the circle from Morris found Denning's stick for the deflection, the ball travelled just wide of the goal.

Bridgwater opened the scoring when the ball was coolly slotted into the goal on the left post following an accurate and powerful pass across the circle.

Bridgwater's second came from a well-worked penalty corner in which a first-time shot found a gap in Mendip's defence.

Following a half-time talk from captain Hayley Bullock, Mendip began the second period with determination.

They were rewarded when Denning lifted a reverse-stick shot over the keeper to make it 2-1.

Although this goal gave Mendip a new lease of life, Bridgwater responded well and scored their third goal from another well-taken penalty corner with an impressive sweep shot.

The flow of Mendip's game continued and they were once again rewarded for their efforts when some good link play between the midfield and attacking players resulted in a goal for Sharon Watts.

Mendip battled hard for the equaliser and it was Sarah Hall who eventually tapped the ball in following some good saves by the Bridgwater keeper.

Sammy Chivers defended well in the dying minutes to hold off some fast and skilful play by Bridgwater's attackers, while Lou Forster carried the ball out of the defensive circle with composure on several occasions.

This was a good team effort, but Claire Latchem was awarded player of the match for the second week for her strength and skilful play in defence.

Mendip are now in sixth in the league with 13 points and face Frome this week in their last league match before the Christmas break.

Mendip Ladies 2nds 0 Fry's Ladies 2nds 1

Fry's started well and took an early lead when Carol Auger fired a shot high into the net following a short corner.

The visitors continued to dominate the first half, but they were unable to add to their score due to some good defending by Paula Doughty and Lucy Hemmings.

Little was seen of Mendip in attack, although Mel Vause did strike a shot against the post.

Mendip improved in the second period and most of the play was in the Fry's half, but, apart from a near miss by Jenny Dunn from Becky Horler's pass, the home team were frustrated and failed to create any clear chances.
