Captain Taviner shows the way

NORTON edged victory in this exciting league fixture thanks to the clinical finishing of captain Sally Taviner and former captain Hayley Young.
Both scored in a game of few chances, to confirm Norton's status as league leaders.
The first half was essentially a midfield battle, with both sides restricted to one penalty corner and one half-chance each.
Karen Glover was the pick of the Norton attack, making a number of surging runs down the right flank, but neither side was able to trouble the scorer in the first half.
Taviner must have given an inspirational team-talk at half-time, because Norton dominated the second half from the whistle.
Strong play from Young earned Norton a penalty corner after 45 minutes.
She played a neat one-two with Taviner, before shooting low into the left corner of the goal to put the visitors ahead.
Bath began to commit numbers forward in search of the equaliser, leaving space for Sarah Swift and Jackie Browning to attack the Norton left.
From one such attack, a Bath infringement saw Norton win a free hit inside the Bath 25.
Anna Swift's through ball was neatly swept goalwards by Taviner giving Norton a two-goal lead and some much-needed breathing space.
Bath came close to pulling one back in the closing stages, but an athletic double save from Norton keeper Carrie Herron kept Norton's sheet clean.
Player of the match was Hayley Young.
On Saturday, Norton are at home, pushback 3pm.
