School given prize of kayak

Students at a Radstock special school have benefited from the kind donation of a tandem kayak.

Fosseway School received the gift from John Hudson after he won the prize in a magazine competition.

For more than a decade, Mr Hudson has been an avid reader of IT trade journal Microscope.

And this autumn his dedication paid off, when he won the Microscope-Gradwell VIP prize of a tandem kayak – which he promptly, and selflessly, donated to the school.

PE teacher at the school James Cainey said: "To win this Microscope-Gradwell prize is just great. It will play an important role for our pupils in our pool, helping them master the art of balance, strength and synchronisation. We have plans for trips to places such as the River Frome, and maybe further afield in the beautiful landscapes around Bath – but probably not until daylight returns to the UK."
