Saturn 42 Paulton Tomahawks 36
Paulton Tomahawks just fell short of their first victory of the season after a closely-fought match in Bridgwater.
Hawks started well and opened up a four-goal lead early on, thanks to great shooting from Cheryl and Helen, but a few errors allowed Saturn to level at 11-11 by the end of the quarter.
Paulton continued to produce some good netball as the centre-court linked play well from defence to attack but Saturn made some vital interceptions and led 23-19 at half-time.
The visitors made some positional changes and came out fighting, with Victoria and Charlotte securing valuable rebounds in defence to allow the Hawks to reduce the lead to two shots.
The Saturn shooters maintained their form and some errors from the Hawks meant they could not close the gap.
A new-look Paulton Vipers team finished four goals short against Henford.
Helen and Kelly formed a new shooting team, with Laura at WD, and accurate passing from Liz, Shelly and Sarah allowed Vipers to take a 13-9 lead after the first quarter.
The two teams went goal-for- goal over the next two quarters, with Kim, Andrea and Laura defending well for Paulton.
Henford took a six-goal lead into the final quarter and a Vipers fightback was not enough as they went down 47-43, picking up three league points.
Paulton Spears picked up a bonus point in defeat at Reckleford in a mid-table clash on Saturday.
The hosts led 8-6 after a nip-and-tuck first quarter and a couple of changes could not help Spears as Reckleford capitalised on mistakes to open up a 15-9 half-time advantage.
Spears tried to mix up their attacking options but Reckleford stayed firm and moved 21-10 clear.
Paulton scored well in the final quarter and restricted the hosts to a 31-17 success. Kirsty picked up both player of the match awards.
Paulton U12s picked up some useful experience, as well as two victories, at their second tournament of the season.
The new squad of Maisie, Skye, Megan, Shannon, Grace, Mollie, Jade and Emily rotated positions throughout the competition, which started with a 3-2 success over local rivals Purnell.
Against Sydenham, Paulton fell three goals behind but launched an excellent fightback before falling just short with a 6-5 defeat.
Paulton's best result was an impressive 5-1 victory over an experienced Bridgwater side thanks to some great defending.
However, the match against Bridgwater's first team proved a step too far. Players of the tournament were Emily and Mollie, who impressed in the defensive circle and made vital interceptions.
Paulton U14s began their tournament with a 5-0 success over Wells 3rd but could not repeat the result against the same club's second team.
The squad of Cerys, Pip, Ellie, Lori, Meg, Ella and Bethany coped well with the absence of three team-mates but were beaten 7-4 by Tor.
However, Paulton finished on a high as a powerful second-half comeback gave them a 7-5 win against Purnell. Players of the tournament were sisters Ella and Bethany.
