The Ring O Bells in Compton Martin, is organising its first Somerset Cider and Cheese Fayre bringing together the finest cider and cheese makers from across the county.
Cider is one of Somerset's finest glories, offering tradition, history, folklore and tremendous variety and 14 cider producers will be attending, and there will be talks on the subject being given by Julian Temperley (Burrow Hill Cider and Somerset Brandy), Alan Stone (Author of In Search of Cider and The Somerset Cider Handbook - pictured) and others to be announced.
Many of the county's finest cheese makers, both traditional and contemporary, famous and the unusual will be there for sampling and to share their secrets.
These days we like to know how and where our food and drinks are produced. This is a great opportunity to actually meet the producers, and sample their wares and chat with some of the friendly characters that keep the tradition alive to share their knowledge and techniques.
The event takes place on Bank holiday Sunday, May 5 and begins at noon.
There will also be entertainment provided by morris dancers, bell ringers, vintage tractors, organic Yeo Valley ice cream, hog roasts and live folk music. There will also be a marquee in case of rain.
