A community shop that has been at the heart of village life in Wellow for the past 16 years has been given a £20,000 makeover.

The Parlour, the first community shop to be set up in B&NES, is also now selling a selection of new lines.

Around 15 volunteers from the village take turns helping out in the shop for a few hours at a time, assisting a part-time manager.

Marian Osborne, chair of the shop's management committee, said: "We decided we needed to change the image and bring in a selection of new lines to cater for modern tastes."

More than £15,000 was raised from local supporters and a £5,000 grant given by B&NES Council.
