Members of Norton Radstock Chess Club are marking their 40th anniversary this weekend with a simultaneous display when grandmaster Matthew Turner takes on 30 players.

The event takes place on Saturday afternoon at Norton Hill School, Midsomer Norton, when the Millfield School Grand Master will test the skills of the players who will include some from the Bath, Frome and Trowbridge clubs.

The chess season has just started with the first league matches. The club plays in two Somerset leagues, one for teams of six and one for teams of four.

Last season the club struggled because of the absence of a number of players but is hoping for a better year. It meets on Thursday evenings from September until April at St Peter's Hall, Westfield.
