Seniors' captain Colin Davies reported on a successful season at the section's annual dinner and prizegiving at Mendip Golf Club.

He paid tribute to the condition of the course and those who look after it, with only one match being cancelled despite a wet summer. The seniors won 21 matches during the season, with four draws and 14 defeats.

Members and their wives were treated to a meal provided by Andy Jones before Davies handed out the prizes to the winners of the honours board competitions.

Winners: Seniors Mendip Vase – Sandy Keen, Seniors Centenary Trophy – Nigel Cheshire, Harry Bowles Trophy – John Jarvis, Bill Smith Cup – Martin Lambert, Seniors Pairs – Terry Russell & John Hargraves, Olly Parfitt Cup – Colin Davies, Bill Freeman Trophy – Bob Smallcombe, Seniors Order of Merit – Roger Ashton, Seniors Captain's Challenge – Mike Smith & Geoff Hodder.

The seniors also won the Wyke Trophy by defeating the club's ladies.

The following day, Jones hosted a joint 70th birthday party for long-standing members Tony Griggs and Abe Fukuyama at the clubhouse.

Anyone interested in hiring the clubhouse can contact Jones on 01749 840570.

Mendip professional Kevin Pitts picked up his first points of the season on the Gloucester and Somerset PGA Total Triumph Order of Merit in Bath last week.

Pitts' round of 75 earned him seventh place and five Order of Merit points.
